Today, here in Virginia, the time came when I could have risen from my desk, gone down the hall to get Heidi, and taken off for the courthouse to get a marriage license.
It didn't happen, today, but it could have. And it will.
In all honesty, the first image that popped into my head as I saw the news was the image of you and Heidi doing just that :-) Congratulations on your wonderful intention! That aside, IMO "marriage." once legitimized by a government contract, is really just a way for your relationship to be formally OWNED by a third, forth, fifth party. You see, it starts with getting the state's permission to marry, so you have to obtain that marriage "license."...Then you better get married before it expires in 60 days, otherwise you have to reapply and pay the $30 fee again..KA CHING..
So if you get married, just be sure to stay married, lest the "ownership" of your relationship get further outsourced along with your finances.
Awesome! Now I have an image of the Jefferson hallway as the aisle you two would walk down, your niece leading the way with a basket of rose petals. Where ever the ceremony, it will will be a very happy occasion.
